A proactive Bassetlaw focus for health and social care

 Disability Equality Scheme 2006 - 2009

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 has been amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 to place a duty on all public sector organisations to:

·        eliminate unlawful discrimination

·        promote equal opportunities

·        eliminate disability harassment

·        promote positive attitudes towards disabled people

·        encourage participation by disabled people in public life

By 4th December 2006 the PCT will publish a Disability Equality Scheme showing how it intends to fulfil its duties under the Act.

Bassetlaw PCT is currently developing its Disability Equality Scheme and would like to actively involve a wide range of disabled people in the planning stages.

We hope to gather information by means of:

·        a questionnaire seeking opinions on experiences and challenges facing disabled people

·        a Focus Group for local disabled people and their organisations to give their views

·        face to face interviews with disabled people

If you have an interest in improving the way health services work for disabled people we’d like to hear from you. For more information on how you can become involved please contact:
