Healthcare Trust.
The Affordable Warmth scheme is
available to people over the age of 60, and not 70.
Wider LSP Update: Cheryl
George reported that two small funding bids were considered at the last
LSP meeting; WRVS (move to new premises) and an alcohol service through
the Neighbourhood Management Scheme. Other initiatives from the LSP
include an engagement event around communications and parenting from the
Children and Young People sub group; green spaces and walks agenda from
the Environmental sub group and the Bassetlaw Games.
Geraldine Pearce attended the
executive meeting and expressed concerns about the levels of young
people’s unemployment in the district.
Job Centre Plus had presented details
of the situation in Bassetlaw. There are very high levels of young
people unemployed. EMA benefits have been scrapped. A copy of the
presentation is available from Geraldine Pearce. All organisations are
asked to think about taking on interns or offering work placements.
BCVS are hoping to offer two, three month placements.
Manton Community Alliance closes on 31st
December. The final project report highlights issues around the
reduction in crime in the area, increased community involvements and
satisfaction with GP practices. Manton Focus, a newly
constituted organisation will be the successor to MCA.
Penny Spring delivered a presentation
around health developments and the future of Public Health. Cheryl
George circulated copies of this presentation.
The Bassetlaw Games project is being
developed. There will be a Food and Health Festival held at Clumber
Park linked to the Games and delivered by partner agencies of BPfH.
Action: CG to email Penny’s
presentation to Lesley at BCVS for circulation.
Bassetlaw Partnership for Health -
Action Plan:
The current action plan finished 31st
March 2011.
There will be an engagement event in
early 2012 to look at how BPfH aligns to the newly formed Health and
Wellbeing Board. Penny Spring will head up the forum which will be a
half day event with lunch. It is expected that BPfH will become the
Health and Wellbeing Partnership – the aim of the event is to look at
the relevant White Papers and Health Profiles; to look at what is being
done and what needs to be done and who to invite onto the Partnership.
Dr Steve Kell from Bassetlaw Commissioning Organisation is the Vice
Chair of the county wide Health and Wellbeing Board. The action plan
will be refreshed in line with the NHS outcomes strategy and the Health
and Wellbeing Board.
Interim Actions for BPfH:
After discussion at a planning meeting
held prior to this meeting, three key projects will be taken forward:
-
Food and Health
festival July 28th 2012 at Clumber Park. Menu of
activities, food demonstrations, play, physical activity, gardening
etc. The Festival will promote a sustainable food and healthy
lifestyle. Helen Houghton setting up steering group for any
interested parties. Action: Anne Cater to write to Jamie Oliver’s
pa. Anne Cater to also invite Sat Bains, a local chef
-
Intergenerational
Choir: as part of Neighbourhood Management, it is hoped to develop a
choir which will be locally led and possibly showcase it at the
Festival. Lesley Thorlby will contact Helena Muller from Lost Chord
to ask if she could help out with ideas for this.
-
Growing/Smallholding –
As part of the Partnership Plus work, Sonya Clark is looking at
pieces of land in Sandy Lane area that could possibly be developed
by local people.
Wendy Pigott reported that there are
some council projects in development. Working with secondary schools
and focussing on Health and Housing – getting the message across about
housing availability and homelessness.
Action: Wendy Pigott to email
details of schools uptake to Lesley at BCVS (around affordable warmth
and housing/heatlh)
Cheryl George asked if members are
still willing to feedback on activities until new action plan available.

Action: Cheryl George to email out
report for members to add their own actions onto.
Anne Cater and Helen Houghton are
putting together a grant application to Big Lottery, Reaching
Communities around workplace health including a 3 year post for a
coordinator.
Individual Agency Feedback:
Alison Jee, Infant Feed Lead –
commissioners have agreed funding for two whole time equivalent
community posts who will be linked to Midwifery and Health Visitors.
There are now 18 well established
volunteers linked with Children’s Centre’s and working with existing
groups. Volunteers will be able to go into hospitals next year. Alison
is working with Helen Houghton to link breastfeeding into the Workplace
Health agenda.
Wendy Pigott – PAS /
Handyperson’s Scheme still going strong. There is no promotional
material from NCC yet although a poster is displayed at No. 73 Bridge
Street, Worksop. There has been a change in the charges and it appears
to have become a much less responsive and visible service. It was noted
that BPfH members had predicted that this would occur when the service
was transferred to NCC.
Jane Zdanowska, NCC is the link person
leading on Preventative Adaptations Scheme.
Action: Wendy to email promotional
poster to Anne Cater and Bassetlaw Action Centre for circulation to
contacts.
Action: Wendy to raise issues from
the group at HPAS meeting on 23rd November around the lack of
publication/promotion.
Wendy Pigott – Supporting People
: Due to the reduction in Supporting People funding the funding for
Community Alarms and Warden will end in April 2013. From April 2012
there will be a charge of £2.95 per week.
After consultation with some of the
sheltered schemes, it has been agreed to charge £2.95 for an alarm and
quarterly visit from a warden.
Action: Wendy to email to Lesley at
BCVS, for circulation, report on Older People’s accommodation for
Nottinghamshire and Erewash research.
Disability Housing Needs Research
– Graham Jackson (BDC) was leading this but will be leaving the
authority soon, Wendy Pigott taking on this role and will feedback to
group.
Energy Efficiency – Warm
Streets campaign in Bassetlaw around loft and cavity wall insulation.
For some people this will be a free service, some will receive a
subsidy. The Government has a new approach to energy efficiency made up
of a financial package of loan funding and repaid through savings on
bills. A1 Housing are an approved assessor for PVs.
Action: Wendy Pigott to email
Lesley at BCVS government paper about Green Deal, for circulation to
group.
DPO report – Anne Cater.
Funding advice to groups is still a major part of the role. There is
still a small amount of money left in the Generations Together pot for
intergenerational projects.
The Wellbeing At Work, Workplace
Health scheme has been a big success. BCVS have now got silver award
and are working towards Gold.
Busy Bees Craft group have been
developed from a group of service users of the old Boundary Centre. Now
a fully constituted group with a bank account and are self-sustaining.
Working on ideas and bids with CAB and
MIND on menu of services for volunteers, to be able to do generic
training for volunteers.
Community Arts Project – working with
a local community artist on some intergenerational projects with older
people and young people from Valley School. This is a mural project
around the history and culture of Worksop. Also working on the idea for
a ‘Welcome To Worksop’ project with the Extended Schools Co-ordinators,
again concentrating on art, history and culture.
Establishing links with GP practices.
Volunteer Coordinators and Voluntary Health Forum meeting facilitated
and well attended.
Menu of services – updated – sent back
to Sonya Clark, links to BCVS website.
Bev Pearson – Department of Work
and Pensions: Service changed – trying to join up with Job Centre
Plus. Looking at what people need regarding benefits advice. Continuing
to work with the most vulnerable people of any age and targeting those
who need most help.
Bassetlaw is linked with Derbyshire,
there are a team of visitors. Main areas of work include those who are
vulnerable with complex needs. There are large areas of health related
needs, i.e. cancer, disabilities, carers, neurological conditions. DWP
want to link with other agencies who deliver similar services, such as
Community Matrons. There is some co-ordination with CAB staff, and need
to identify any more gaps. Partner agency staff and volunteers can be
accredited to fill out forms for the DWP. Bev agreed to do a
presentation to the Volunteer Managers Group.
Action: LT to invite Bev to future
Volunteer Managers Forum meeting.
Geraldine Pearce - BCVS move,
went well, things still to do on the building and garden area.
NCC funding cut totally to community
resource centres, this impacts on Langold Resource Centre, Tuxford Mine
of Information, The Crossing, Carlton Resource Centre and Manton
Community Alliance. Geraldine has met with all of these organisations
and also with Kay Cutts from NCC about this. Langold doing really good
work around benefits advice and training, if the money goes this will
shut.
Geraldine has been involved with
facilitating meetings of two newly formed groups; Manton Community Focus
and Civic Society for Worksop.
Voluntary Sector Engagement Forum
will be launched in November and is a forum for the sector to engage
with Bassetlaw Commissioning Organisation, Bassetlaw District Council
and NHS Bassetlaw.
Jackie Gladden reported on
Transforming Community Services within the local NHS. Dean Housman is
the interim manager. Bassetlaw Commissioning Organisation (BCO) is
working closely with NHS Bassetlaw. The PCT will cease to exist in
2013.
Bassetlaw Stroke Service is currently
provided by Bassetlaw Action Centre and an evaluation report is being
prepared. BCO will decide whether to commission the service in the
future and this will go out to tender.
Any other business:
Jackie Gladden leaving PCT on 23rd
December. Cheryl George gave grateful thanks from herself and all the
group and all wished Jackie a healthy and happy retirement.
Cheryl George attended Vision
strategy event in Nottingham.
Action: Cheryl to send outcomes
framework to the group.
Lesley Thorlby – The BPfH
website is still up and running although there are not many visitors per
week. There is no dedicated budget for the site. It was agreed to
leave the site at the moment, it can be used in the future for key new
health messages. It was agreed to link to BCVS and PCT sites.
Anne Cater – It was agreed that
the half day event mentioned earlier in these minutes will be the BPfH
Annual Event.
